Protecting Your Family

In Chapter 3 of The Hot Marble, "The Attack," Lewis is ordered to work with the enemy or his family may be hurt. This is a powerful, but horrible motivator. In a more subtle way, the threat exists with a so-called "normal" situation. For instance, a child feels the tension or anxiety of her parents and adjusts her behaviors to "protect" them. She gets used to not expressing her negative emotions. She doesn't tell what scary things she's seen or experienced. The habit may last well into her future.

It takes a while to unlearn that behavior. But it can be unlearned.
